At MPC our specialty is high precision machining-challenging parts featuring tight tolerances, which for us are measured in ten-thousandths of an inch: 0.0005”, 0.0002”, even 0.0001”. In many high-performance industries – especially the medical, aerospace, and automotive fields – high precision tolerances like these must be met to create a mechanical press fit in the product design. High-precision CNC and Swiss screw machine techniques, along with our proprietary lapping and grinding processes, allow us to hold tight tolerances like this from brass, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, plastics like PEEK and Delrin, and more.
Press Fits
A press fit is a design in which two or more components fit together without the use of fasteners or adhesives, but remain strong and secure. Extremely tight tolerances are often critical for applications like this, and even 0.001” (one thousandth of an inch) may be too large a tolerance for some parts. High-precision machined tolerances ensure consistent assembly, reduce component wear, and maintain their integrity over time.
Press Fits in Medical Applications
Nowhere are tight tolerances more critical than in medical device manufacturing. Surgical tools, orthopedic implants, and diagnostic equipment must all meet exact specifications to ensure safety and performance. A poorly machined component in a press-fit assembly can compromise sterilization, hinder functionality, or introduce patient risk. MPC’s precision screw and precision CNC machining capabilities mean we can meet these stringent requirements on parts of all types.
Other Applications
We often see tight tolerances for assembly purposes from our customers in the aerospace industry, both civil and defense. In the world of electronics manufacturing, producing high precision components such as pins, connectors, shafts, and terminals to tight tolerances at high volumes – 100,000, 500,000, 1,000,000 pieces and more – is MPC’s specialty. Precision automotive components must often be both precise and inexpensive, and MPC’s Escomatic and automatic screw machines are well-suited to this kind of work.
